What Does Kbd Failed Try Again

Ensoniq EPS16+ "Kbd failed - try again?" (+ 1 more Q re: formatting nada disks)

Hi people,

I was wondering if anyone who owns an EPS16+ has ever had this bulletin appear when trying to load up the keyboard, and whether you know what the cause and solution might be! Very frustrating as I was only starting to get the hang of this sampler.

Google is yielding very fiddling and then I become the feeling it is a rare condition: "kbd failed - attempt again?" - Google Search

Cheers

Here'southward the i more question:

I take a pile of second hand null disks for my ASR-x's iomega cipher bulldoze merely since they're second hand, they all accept stuff already on them... My ASR has a function enabling it to format 3 1/2 inch floppies but in that location doesn't seem to exist one for formatting a zippo disk. Does anyone know how to do this? A google search on 'How to format a nothing disk' yielded niggling.

I did a search over there and found i suggested solution:

"That happend to me too, Merely then it just started working again. Brand shure you don't have your asr in a damp identify like the basement. And Keep a fan on information technology to keep it cool. Hope your shit gets meliorate peace."

I've establish that mine loads upwardly sometimes if I'm lucky, sometimes not. Recently I have had it turned on for prolonged periods (8 hrs or and then) and until now was unaware that that was frowned upon. Plain there are overheating problems?

If any gearslutz have any further advice that would be much recommended.

Cheers

i heard it means the actual keyboard section of the board is expressionless and wont work without information technology. youll have to get that fixed but id call thesoniq to be for sure

did you lot go the mistake more than once?

sometimes you lot but demand to effort again.

OK well so far it seems to be ok

Every now so when I plough it on it won't work, but it'south back to working at present and then all is good.

I'm guessing that I was overusing/heating information technology there (three days prob 8 hours per day) plus the atmospheric condition in my room has been a bit humid.

Then that could exist it

Anyways, its back to working

Cheers for the assist people

In the future I might effort pointing a fan at the back

That seems to exist the convential wisdom on these matters

Peace!

The problem is the keyboard circuit connection. They are cheaply made, and over time, as things begin to sag. The usage of the unit of measurement actually deteriorates the connections. At that place are three options for this to be repaired. Note: ofttimes times connection is returned is due to either, hit, borer, or banging the unit. Room or environment temperature, and or, repairs are made.
You lot tin hands set up it. I have to set up mine, information technology has the aforementioned trouble now. It's a elementary fix, however if you really want to get technical with information technology - it can get into soldering a couple of wires. Nothing huge, and information technology's a common problem with the Ensoniq Ensemble.

I am with Kevwest, to my conventionalities, that ways in that location is an bodily issue with the keyboard and if it constantly happens, you lot probably need it serviced. Withal, I have had this error come up for me on my ASR 10, among others, and but turned it off and information technology went away. I know other people who have had diverse problems with ASR 10's, specifically, that went away after turning information technology off for awhile. Unfortunately, Ensoniq samplers seem to be the same as vintage British cars, always having some minor issues that oftentimes go away, but once something fails, information technology's catastrophic and expensive.

Turn it off for a week and see what happens.

Thesoniq is pretty much the merely place to go. Unfortunately they don't seem to desire to give quotes over the phone, maybe because I am fairly local, they just want me to bring it in. I personally want some thought of how much something should cost, even ball park, before I make a commitment. I know a bunch of people who rave about them but I practise know one person who actually took his apart afterwards not wanting to pay again and instead of replacing boards, he found pins that had been jumped. He wasn't the original possessor and so information technology may not have been them, but it should have been noticed by them. That kind of scares me, I would expect them to replace the components with used, working components, rather than fix them.

re

rhymesmart is correct. This is super mutual with certain ensoniq keybeds. sq80 is the worst btw. you are most likely failing a keyboard test on boot because the ii sections of the keybed are not well connected. you tin just solder it raw or I have used an sometime ribbon cable to connect between them and soldered to both sides.

I had to sign up to help you as an asr user who nearly went mad non knowing how to format null disks at first, the answer is the option to format cipher drive only becomes bachelor when yous boot the asr from the floppy drive (then i hope you lot got the os on floppy) and and so in my feel you have to do these steps in the right society for the formatting to piece of work so heres the order I found worked for me hopefully for you also:

1. kicking asr with the zip drive turned off.
2. turn on zip bulldoze and insert an all ready formatted zip disk.
3. become to alter storage device option and select the correct scsi drive.
four. then insert the disk you desire to format and go to format scsi drive.

personally I found if I raised the interleaving number it made the format neglect so I would only leave that option, hope this works for you. Also people are right about ensoniqs overheating sometimes simply y'all as well get the kbd failed message if its too cold, I had a really cold spot and I would take to leave the asr on for 20 mins or so afterwards i got the kbd failed bulletin before hitting the 'try again' and then it would be fine.

sometimes?

My ASR10 gets hotter than my whole rack of converters/preamps. It gets hotter than my consoles 16 amps of ability supplies. Pretty sure it's the hottest matter in my studio.

I realize many people have talked about the 'rut issues', and there seems to be many that have worked a very long fourth dimension, but it really makes me desire to drill some holes and install a fan on the unit ...

I believe someone was really selling 'vented memory covers' for the ASR10. It probably wouldn't be too hard to build a retentivity comprehend with a mesh, and mayhap possibly install a fan onto it (I've never looked at the clearance available ...)

I'k not sure how much it would help though, equally it seems to generate enough rut to not only get BURNING hot on the top right where the PSU/retention is, but also spread to 'nonetheless pretty damn hot' across the entire casing ...

I'one thousand sure those levels of heat can't be too good for annihilation inside it, but again, many people take had them working for years and years ...
